Loudon Agricultural Commission Meeting: Aug 26, 2009, 7 pm Community Building

Attendees: Pearl Aznive, Charlie Aznive, Roy Merrill

Minutes:

  1. Minutes of the July 22, 2009 were reviewed. “Paul Aznive” was corrected to “Pearl Aznive”. Minutes were accepted.
  2. The speaker from the New Hampshire Farm Bureau did not attend.
  3. The commission reviewed the NH State definition of a farm as detailed in: RSA 21:34-a and available here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/i/21/21-34-a.htm. It was agreed this document would be used to define farms in Loudon.
  4. A list of farms has been sent to the Loudon Ledger for inclusion in the Sept issue. Farms located in Loudon but with retail outlets outside of Loudon will be listed. Also farms in Loudon will be listed even if the owner is not a Loudon resident. It is expected that the list of farms will be dynamic with farms requesting to be listed as they become aware of the Agricultural Commission purpose.
  5. A web site was discussed. Bruce Dawson will provide a web site and requested that the board provide the URL. Possible names are: ag.ci.loudon.nh.us, loudonagcommission.org.
  6. The board will review the Loudon Zoning Ordinances and pay particular attention to how the ordinances effect farms and farming activities: http://www.loudonnh.org/documents/zb/2009_Zoning_Ordinance.pdf
  7. Commission Members will attempt to attend other Loudon board meetings including the Conservation Commission, Zoning and Planning Board meetings to help identify and provide input on farm related issues.
  8. All members and attendees will continue to identify farms in Loudon.
  9. Cory Clark pointed out that the “Appointment Paper” identified this organization as the Loudon Agricultural Committee not Agricultural Commission as approved at the March 2009 Town Meeting.
  10. The Commission will attempt to make Town’s people aware of farm issues.
  11. An accurate soil type map of Loudon is needed. Pearl Aznive will locate a speaker who might be willing to address the Commission. Earl Tuson will contact NRCS for soils information.
  12. It was decided that Carole Soule will take notes and act as chair person of the Commission. If Carole is unavailable for any meeting Earl Tuscon will preside.
