Minutes (recorded by Melissa Moore):

  • Prior minutes accepted with corrected typos.
  • Discussed not having Agricultural Commission meetings during the summer (June through September; inclusive. Moved to pass. Melissa seconded. Passed.
  • Carole volunteered to write a letter to the Selectmen to replace John Plummer with Alice Tuson as an alternate. Bruce moved; Melissa seconded; motion passed.
  • Carole will write a Thank-you note to the Recreation Commission regarding the Harvest Dinner in November.
  • Promotional Grant: Is no longer available through NHDAMF but Carole will investigate another source. Bruce moved; Earl seconded; motion passed.
  • Winter speakers were discussed:
    • Kevin Gardner
    • Someone should send an invite to Young at Heart to increase attendance for "speakered" meetings.
    • Melissa indicated that the author of Stone by Stone from UConn is no longer giving public presentations. (Dr. Robert Thorson).
    • Consider doing the talking series with Historical Society.
    • Bruce will look into finding out how many High Tunnels are within our jurisdiction.
    • Bruce may have a speaker on Farm Energy.
  • Carole, Bruce, Earl talked about the Farm Infrastructure seminar. Capital Area Farm was a sponsor. Mobile processing of animal for meat was discussed, as was a flash freezer. For non-livestock farmers, a no-till drill was discussed. A fence-post pounder was thought to be useful. Possible farm infrastructure needs in Loudon was discussed.
  • The best seeds for rotational grazing and winter grazing was discussed.
  • Carole moved that Our Place Farm (James Batchelder) be put on the Loudon Ag Map. Bruce seconded. Motion passed.
  • Carole will present the 2011 meeting schedule at the January 2011 meeting.
  • Bruce moved to adjourn at 7:43pm. Earl seconded. Passed.
